Real news v fake news: Is AI a threat to democracy?

Diese Veranstaltung liegt in der Vergangenheit.

This year, over 2 billion people will be voting in a record-breaking number of elections around the world. That’s a quarter of the global population.

It will also mark the first major electoral cycle in the era of widespread generative AI. Are governments and tech companies doing enough to combat the viral spread of disinformation? Could the scaling back of moderation, a lack of proper regulation and the rise of AI create a perfect storm to weaken elections and democracy?

During this dizzying time of disinformation, propaganda and truth-bending rhetoric, it will be more important than ever to distinguish between real news and fake news. Join the Guardian’s UK technology editor Alex Hern with an expert panel as they explore the risk that AI could seriously disrupt the democratic process.
